Alma Linda Niit (Kothe), 93, of Wasaga Beach died Tuesday February 16, 2016 at Georgian Bay General Hospital in Midland. Born in Volhynia (now Ukraine) as a member of a German ethnic minority, Alma and her family were resettled in Warthegau. In January 1945, the family fled from the advancing Soviet Army and eventually settled in Oldenburg, Germany. After the war Alma spent some time in London, England. In 1960 Alma immigrated to Canada living in Toronto, Stayner and Wasaga Beach. Although far away, Alma was very close to her parents and siblings and visited them often. She very much loved nature and loved gardening at her farm in Stayner and at her home in Wasaga Beach. She is predeceased by her beloved husband Raymond, parents Rudolf and Lydia Kothe and brother Leonhard Kothe. Survived by sisters Hilde, Lilly, Edith and Irma in Germany. Fondly remembered by stepsons Thomas Niit in Sweden and Riho Niit in Estonia. Also by grandchildren Katrin and Raid Niit in Estonia and by nieces and nephews Andrew Barker in the USA, Juri Niit (Susan) in Fergus, Riina Jackson (Andrew) in Mt. Albert and Peter Niit (Jasmine) in Mississauga. Alma will be greatly missed by her very close friend Brigitte Spencer (Bert) in Wasaga Beach. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 from 1 o’clock for the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 2pm. Reception to follow at Jubilee Presbyterian Church, 7320 Highway 26, Stayner. Spring Interment Stayner Union Cemetery.
