Obituary for Dennis W. Smith

Dennis W. Smith
Smith, Dennis Wray
Passed away peacefully and surrounded by love on Saturday, July 14, 2018 in his 80th year. Beloved husband of 50 years to his wife Judy. Proud and loving father of Kevin (Dayle) and Wendy (Paul McCartney). Papa will be greatly missed by Jenna (Curtis Kenwell) and Riley Smith. Dennis was born on July 12, 1939 in Collingwood to the late John and Iva Smith. A true Collingwood lad, what began in the Shipyards changed to a 32-year career in the telephone industry with Nortel. Many will associate him with his love of antiques and vintage cars. Dennis will be remembered for his outgoing personality, his warmth, kindness and the love he demonstrated to family and friends through his thoughtfulness. He was much loved by brothers-in-law Wayne (Dale) Toye, Brian (Gail) Toye, Ian (Judy) Toye, and Harry Claridge. Predeceased by sisters-in-law Gwen Walker (Lionel) and Marilyn Claridge (Jim Purves). Dennis will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews. He was a great friend and, as an only child, his friends were like family. Dennis was a courageous warrior and battled cancer for twenty years to spend as much time with us as possible – he showed us how to be strong and resilient through challenging times and his legacy of tenacity is a gift to us all. His family is grateful for the support and care given by all involved in his healthcare journey. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Tuesday, July 17, 2018 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Wednesday, July 18, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment Stayner Union Cemetery. Reception to follow at Jubilee Presbyterian Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis’s name to Myeloma Canada or Hospice Georgian Triangle – Campbell House.
