Obituary for Walter John "Wally" Shubat

Walter John "Wally" Shubat
Shubat, Walter “Wally” John
Died peacefully, after a lengthy and heroic battle with cancer, at Campbell House Hospice in Collingwood, Ontario on June 28, 2018 at the age of 89. Born in Kirkland Lake, son of the late Venka and Angelo Shubat who immigrated to Canada from Croatia. Brother of the late Goldie and cousin of Jeannie. Loving husband of the late Elizabeth Ann Balfour of 55 years and son-in-law of the late Gladys and Leith Balfour of Toronto. Devoted father of Stephen and Paul. Dear grandfather of Michael, John, Jeff and Chris. Father-in-law of Cheryl, Michelle and Meredith. Step-grandfather of Rachel and Virginia and grandfather-in-law of Kayluh. A very special friend to Sheila.
Wally was principled, optimistic and compassionate; qualities which will always be remembered by his family and his many close friends, colleagues and neighbours. A truly gracious gentleman that took great pleasure from making new friends, keeping in touch with old friends and helping people in his favourite cities: Toronto, Montreal and Wasaga Beach. He was passionate about the Canadian broadcasting business and collecting, restoring and driving his treasured automobiles.
During his recent struggles with his health, Wally would remind his family of the importance of the people you meet every single day and that everyone had an interesting story to learn from and share. Wally was most thankful for the people that he came to know and love and for his rich, rewarding, and happy life.
Friends are invited to celebrate Wally’s life and share stories at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Wasaga Beach Chapel, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach, Ontario, from 1-3 pm on Sunday, July 8, 2018.
If so desired, the family would appreciate donations made to the Campbell House Hospice.
The Shubat family will be eternally grateful for the extraordinary care given by the staff at Campbell House Hospice as well as Dr. A. Boyd, Dr. J. Greyling and Anita Moore of the CCAC.
