Obituary for M. Catherine Dunlop (Sage)

M. Catherine Dunlop (Sage)
Dunlop, Catherine (nee Sage)

It is with sad and heavy hearts that the Dunlop family announces the passing of Catherine on Tuesday June 26th, 2018, at home surrounded by her loved ones.
Catherine Sage Dunlop was born on November 10, 1946, the daughter of Mel and Debbie Sage, both deceased. She began her Elementary teaching career in 1966 in Schomberg, Ontario moving back to Simcoe County in 1969. In 1971, she married Fred Dunlop and together, they raised 3 fantastic children on their farm just north of Stayner.
Catherine was passionate about her teaching career, ending at Admiral Collingwood Public School which was on the corner of Hume and Hurontario. She was equally passionate about music. For many years, she could be found on an organ bench in many of the local churches. She has accompanied by many vocalists, violinists, musicians alike, and venues as small as a park, and as large as Roy Thomson Hall in Toronto. In 1992, she became organist and choir director at her beloved Centennial United Church in Stayner.
In 2009, she was diagnosed with lymphatic cancer and more recently diagnosed with terminal cancer. Cathy spent her final days with family, music and close friends at her side. This was with the medical help and ongoing support from Dr. Quigg and Dr. McLachlin.

She leaves to mourn her passing but cherishing memories of happy times, her husband Fred, their children Brian & Anita Dunlop, Peter & Katrina Dunlop and Susan & Scott Irwin. She thrived on the role of grandmother to her seven precious grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Lucas Dunlop, Abby, Jake and Zach Dunlop and McKenna and Sydney Irwin. She is also survived by her brother Willard & Diane Sage, nephew Stephen & Jane Sage, niece Shauna Lee & Dan McFarlane. As well, she leaves her sister-in-law, June Ballard and nephew Derrick & Cynthia Ballard. She was also "great-aunt" to 7 young people and great-great Aunt to Kaysen
Friends will be received at Centennial United Church, 234 William Street, Stayner on Friday June 29, 2018 from 2-4 p.m. and again from 7-9 p.m. The Funeral Service to celebrate Cathy’s life will take place at Centennial United Church on Saturday June 30, 2018 at 10 o’clock with a musical prelude starting at 9:30. Interment Stayner Union Cemetery. Reception to follow in the CE Wing of Centennial United Church.
