W. Allan "Al"  Nelson
Nelson, Wilfred Allan “Al”
Died peacefully on Sunday January 21, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family at the age of 88. Al of Stayner, beloved husband of Audrey (nee Hornsby) and of the late Doreen (nee Manning). Al is survived by his step-sons Dwayne (Lynda) Cooksey and Blair (Donna Boucher) Cooksey, grandchildren Sarah, Stephanie and Hayden and his many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Wilfred and Irene Nelson, his brother Mark, his sisters Marion McKibbon and Isabel Bowman, step-son Ray Cooksey, his niece Linda McKibbon, brothers-in-law Elwood McKibbon and Auston Bowman and sister-in-law Audrey Nelson. Allan will also be missed by the Hornsby and Cooksey families, his many friends and neighbours. Al was deeply committed to his community. He began his career with Sheldon Mills, then moved to Stayner as a part owner of Stayner Feed. He was involved with his church, Centennial United Church and the Stayner Siskins for many years as treasurer. He loved his cottage on Lake Nippissing, particularly ice fishing and assisted with the lake ecology through restocking and management efforts. Al served the Stayner Fire Department for many years, retiring as Chief. He will be dearly missed. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel, 7313 Highway 26, Stayner on Friday January 26, 2018 from 11 a.m. for the Memorial Service in the Chapel to celebrate Allan’s life at 12 noon. Reception to follow at Centennial United Church Hall. Interment Alliston Union Cemetery at a later date. If desired, a donation to the Salvation Army would be appreciated by Al’s family.
