Obituary for Elwood "Pete" Ormonde Jerry

Elwood "Pete" Ormonde Jerry
Jerry, Elwood Ormonde "Pete"

With deep sorrow, the family of Elwood ‘Pete’ Ormonde Jerry announces his peaceful passing at the Campbell House Hospice in the presence of his loving family at the age of 83. Pete was born in Stayner to Elmer and Vida May Jerry. Pete is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara (Nee Smart), his son Mike (Terri) Jerry, grandchildren, Maxwell and Mardi, daughter Lisa (Jeff) Hare, grandchildren Kaylee, Lexi and Ali, son Kevin (Sandrah) Jerry, grandchildren Madeleine and Vivienne, sister Merle Miller (Jim) and numerous relatives of the immediate family. He is predeceased by his parents, sister Dorothy, stepmothers Muriel and Vera and brother in law Norris Miller. Pete had a very quick wit, a very generous manner to him, always willing to share ‘guidance and support’ to those that reached out. He had a tremendous circle of friends he loved to travel with to warm locations. Pete loved his time at the cottage on Healey Lake, travelling for the winters with Barb to Portugal, but most importantly spending time spoiling his grandchildren. After graduating Grade 8 ‘with honours’ from Nottawasaga SS23, Pete worked alongside his father on the family farm before embarking on a career in auto body repair with Orville Boyer’s Auto Body. Pete would go on to found and operate Jerry’s Body Shop before joining his wife Barb in the mid- 80’s with the operation of Barb’s Clothes Closet. Pete was extremely generous with his time and energy volunteering within the community. He was extremely proud to be recognized with the Lions Club’s highest award, The Melvin Jones Award, and was equally as proud with receiving The Thomas Stayner Award for his commitment to the Town of Friendly People. Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Stayner Chapel on Sunday October 1, 2017 from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Jubilee Presbyterian Church. 7320 Highway 26, Stayner on Monday at 1 o’clock. Interment Stayner Union Cemetery. Donations to Campbell House Hospice would be appreciated by Pete’s family.
