Obituary for Donald Wilfrid Ford

Donald Wilfrid Ford
Ford; Donald Wilfrid
Don Ford was born in Toronto to J Wilfrid and Adele (Clark) Ford, the youngest of three children. He was pre-deceased by his brother Herbert and is survived by his sister Marion Havercroft. He graduated with a BA (English) from the University of Toronto and earned a MEd from the University of Calgary. Don worked for Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) at their camps and in student ministry. He later served on the board of IVCF for Canada as well as the local committee in Barrie, Ontario. In 1968, he joined the staff of Georgian College in Barrie at the advent of the college. During his 17 years there, he launched various programs. He helped to start Inniswood Baptist Church in Barrie, Ontario. He was a pioneer in Canada for the Alpha course and an active church member. He also served on the board of Arab World Ministries, which later merged with Pioneers Canada. Don had a keen interest in the spiritual and professional well-being of his family. He read widely, was an avid photographer and enjoyed being on the water. He is survived by his wife Fran and their blended family: Doug (Cheryl with Madison and Emma), Debera (John with Lucas and Patrick), Christine (Alasdair), Heather (Roy with Ella), Darryl (with Kristen [son Tyler], Melissa and Brandon), Donna (Steve with William, Andrew, Isaac and Abigail) and Rob (Allana with Linley and Esme). He was pre-deceased by his first wife Barbara and daughter Jennifer. Don said that if God had a phone number, it would be Jeremiah 33:3— “Call to me and I will answer you and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” He had a deep sense of gratitude for the Lord’s love for him. “The Lord said: ‘I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love. With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.’” (Jeremiah 31:3) Friends will be received at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Wasaga Beach Chapel, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach on Friday December 16, 2016 from 7-9 p.m. and on Saturday December 17, 2016 at Faith Missionary Church, 1355 River Road West, Wasaga Beach from 1 pm until the time of Funeral Service at 2 p.m. Spring interment Barrie Union Cemetery.
